Step One:

-Start by taking your plain white canvas and pencil to sketch your design onto the canvas. I chose to do a tree but the possibilities are endless as to what you could use for your guests to sign!  If you wanted to do a colored background, paint the canvas first and wait for it to dry before sketching your design onto the canvas.

Step Two:

-Once you have sketched your design you can start going over your design in paint or pen. I used a black paint pen so that it was easier to get the lines that I wanted. When your design is dry you can erase the pencil marks that you sketched onto the canvas. Be sure to let it dry completely so that your design does not smudge.

Step Three:

-Decide what you want to do for the part where the guests are going to sign their name. For my guest book I decided to cut out leaves to give it a 3 dimensional look. You could paint them on or I’ve also seen it done where there is ink pads at the wedding and the guests use their fingerprints as the leaves and then sign their leaf. To get all the leaves the same size I made a template and traced them all out in pencil before cutting them out with scissors. Once I cut out all the leaves I glue gunned them down to make sure that they stayed on the canvas.

Step Four:

-Add personalized details to the frame. For my guestbook I decided to do a carved heart in the tree with the initials on as well as a two little birds sitting in the tree. At the bottom of the canvas you can put the name of the couple as well as the date of the wedding if desired.
